Zac Efron & brother Dylan Efron pose for shirtless photos on Lake Nacimiento (Image: Instagram)
Zac Efron closed out summer far from the red carpet, sharing a rare glimpse into his private life with photos and videos from a recent trip to Lake Nacimiento in California, taken alongside his younger brother, Dylan Efron.
One photo posted to Instagram on September 10 showed the brothers shirtless on the back of a boat, soaking up the sun on the water. Another image captured Zac, 38, riding a small surfboard across the lake’s surface, while a third showed the pair relaxing lakeside with friends. Zac captioned his post with a simple peace-sign emoji; Dylan, 34, who shared his own set of photos from the same trip, wrote, “Taking it easy ☀️.”
Lake Nacimiento, located in San Luis Obispo County on California’s Central Coast, is a popular warm-weather destination for boating, wakeboarding and lakeside relaxation, known for its calm, clear water and rolling hillside scenery. It’s also close to home turf for the Efron family — Dylan was born in San Luis Obispo, giving the getaway a personal, low-key feel rather than a jet-setting celebrity vacation.
Beyond the boat photos, the brothers packed in a full day of activity, including a round of wakeboarding and a game of golf, rounding out what appeared to be a classic Central Coast summer outing.
The trip stood out in part because Zac has shared details of his personal life so infrequently in recent years. The High School Musical and The Iron Claw star has kept a notably low public profile, making only occasional public appearances outside of promotional work. That made the candid, unscripted nature of the lake trip — golf, wakeboarding and time on the water with family — feel like a departure from his usual, more guarded social media presence.
The post also drew a wave of lighthearted reactions from fellow celebrities. Twilight actor Taylor Lautner joked in the comments, “My aunt Tammy is on this app chill,” while former NFL player Lonie Paxton added, “Take it easy, bros. Save some for the rest of us.” Survivor alum Mitch Guerra chimed in with, “The boys are thrivin’.”
Zac and Dylan have a long history of documenting getaways together, from lake trips and camping outings in years past to attending sporting events and family gatherings. Dylan, who has built his own public profile as a television personality — including appearances on The Traitors and Dancing with the Stars — has also worked behind the camera with his brother, producing Zac’s Down to Earth docuseries.
