Amazon founder Jeff Bezos recently tied the knot with former journalist Lauren Sánchez in Venice, Italy, last week.

The couple began their weekend on the serene island of San Giorgio Maggiore, known for its stunning Renaissance-era architecture. They chose the secluded spot because of the ongoing protests surrounding Bezos’ arrival in Venice.

Protests

Venetians protested the wedding, stating, “No Space for Bezos.” Locals expressed their discontent with billionaires using the city of Venice as a playground to flaunt their wealth. Venetian activist and leader of the No Space for Bezos movement, Tommaso Cacciari, told Business Insider, “He wanted to use Venice as a background. We used him to speak about the real problems of Venice, and it worked, and we are very glad about it.”

According to Reuters, Mayor Luigi Brugnaro paid no mind to the protesters, “We are happy and honoured to welcome Jeff Bezos and his consort Lauren Sánchez,” Brugnaro expressed.

The celebration concluded at the historic Arsenale, a former medieval shipyard.

Celebrity Guest List

The guest list included around 200 guests, featuring several of Hollywood’s top names. The Kendall Jenner, Ivanka Trump, Oprah Winfrey, and even Sydney Sweeney were some of the several celebrities who attended the billionaire’s wedding.

Jenner took the opportunity to post some gorgeous snaps to Instagram, using the city’s iconic sites as backdrops.

Most of the guests have a connection with the newlywed couple, but fans were confused as to why the Sweeney made an appearance. A user on X posted, “What business could Sydney Sweeney possibly have at Jeff Bezos’s wedding?”

In June, Variety announced that Sweeney would star in a movie adaptation of the hit multiplayer video game, Split Fiction, produced by Amazon MGM Studios. While Sweeney has no personal connection to the couple, a source told Page Six, the actress “came to pay respects to the boss, just like in the old days of Hollywood.”
