Madonna & Julia Garner Wear Matching Outfits As They Ride Gondola Through Venice
Madonna and Julia Garner are twinning looks, traveling together in Venice.
They posted a video of themselves riding a gondola through the canals, lip-syncing to Madonna’s 1984 song “Like a Virgin.”
They wore matching outfits: jeans and a black-and-white polo, with a black blazer. They accessorized their outfits with straw hats, with Garner wearing a red ribbon and Madonna a blue ribbon.
Their joint Instagram post was captioned, “Like A Virgin…… again and again. 🇮🇹,” referencing the music video’s filming location in Venice more than 40 years ago.
The capital of Italy’s Veneto Region, Venice is unique for its car-free transportation system, built atop 100 small islands on a lagoon. Tourists could travel only by boat, such as water taxis and, most famously, gondolas, through the city’s canals. Venice is renowned for its Grand Canal, St. Mark’s Basilica, historic bridges and architecture. The city is often nicknamed “a living museum,” with history and culture thriving in every corner.
In an interview for I Want My MTV: The Uncensored Story of the Music Video Revolution, the director of the music video, Mary Lambert, believed that Madonna “singing in a gondola was the most outrageous thing I could think of.”
The two celebrities were spotted this past week filming Season 2 of The Studio. This would be Madonna’s first scripted TV role since her 2003 appearance on Will & Grace.
In contrast, Garner was previously cast as Madonna in a biopic, written by the singer herself. Although the project was scrapped in 2023, Netflix took it on as a future series, with Garner as the lead.
