Timothée Chalamet traded red carpets for mountain trails, sharing a photo series from a father-son hiking trip in Italy with his dad, Marc Chalamet.

The Marty Supreme star posted nine photos to Instagram on Sept. 12, documenting the pair’s getaway in the Dolomites, the dramatic mountain range in northeastern Italy. He kept the caption simple: “Hiking with dad in the Dolomites.”

The carousel opens with a selfie of the actor set against green trees and towering peaks under a clear blue sky. Other shots show the father and son posing on the trails, while one shows the pair wearing safety helmets and headlamps inside what appears to be a cave or tunnel, with Marc holding a rope.

Some scenes appear to have been taken around Passo Falzarego and Mount Lagazuoi, a few miles from the resort town of Cortina d’Ampezzo, according to Italian outlets. The Lagazuoi area is known for its network of World War I tunnels, which hikers can explore with helmets and headlamps.

Food also played a starring role. Chalamet shared a photo from a fine-dining stop, where he enjoyed crostini topped with caviar alongside a glass of wine, along with a candid shot of himself mid-bite into a slice of pizza and another of him holding an ice cream cone in his hiking gear.

His Dune co-star, Josh Brolin, weighed in in the comments, writing, “Nothing better.”

The post quickly became one of the most popular on Chalamet’s Instagram, surpassing 4.5 million likes. His posts typically draw around 1 million likes.

Much of the reaction centered on how ordinary the photos looked. Rather than polished, professionally shot vacation content, the images resembled the kind of snapshots any family might bring home from a trip, including one that looks like it was taken by a passing hiker asked to snap a quick photo. Fans praised the post for feeling genuine and unposed, with some comparing it to Instagram’s early days, when users simply posted their vacation photos. Others joked that they wouldn’t recognize the Oscar nominee if they passed him on the trail.

Marc Chalamet is a French journalist and translator who began his career with the Associated Press in Paris and has also worked as an editor for UNICEF. He and Chalamet’s mother, former Broadway dancer Nicole Flender, are also the parents of actress Pauline Chalamet.

Chalamet, who holds both American and French citizenship, has often spoken about his close relationship with his father and his time growing up in France. The Dolomites post marked a rare glimpse into his family life on social media.

The trip offered Chalamet a break before a busy stretch. He is set to return as Paul Atreides in Dune: Part Three, which hits theaters in December, kicking off another major promotional campaign for the Denis Villeneuve-directed franchise.
