The Bachelor’s Matt James & Rachel Kirkconnell Discover Venice
In Kirkconnell’s first-ever trip to Europe, the couple feasted on gelato, rode in a gondola to transport them through the Venetian waterways and visited Saint Mark’s Basilica.
In Italy, gelato is a must. One of the best gelato shops in Venice includes Gelateria il Doge. Guests report that the shop has a wonderful variety of flavors. Enjoy a scenic view while enjoying the gelato by stepping out onto the square with a view of a nearby bridge. The prices are reasonable and the shop also offers gluten-free and vegan options. Another top destination for gelato while in Venice should be Bacaro del Gelato. Guests leave raving reviews, calling their gelato “the best in Venice.” The pistachio flavor is a favorite.
A gondola ride costs 80 euros for a private tour lasting 25-30 minutes during the day, and 120 euros at night. A gondola can hold 1-6 people, not including the gondolier. PRO TIP: Make sure to ask the gondolier what the price would be for a longer ride before beginning the tour.
St. Mark’s Basilica is the most important temple in Venice and one of the most beautiful cathedrals in the world. Construction began in 1063, but the building underwent modifications in the 17th and 18th centuries which resulted in a blend of different styles. For visitors, admission is free, but it’s best to plan ahead as the line can get very long.
